Institute Roche – Boulogne Billancourt France. The Institut Roche is an SME, affiliate from Roche France. It is the French Hub to Roche R&D activities with a specific focus onto Research and Translational Medicine collaborative programs. The Institute has led major collaborative research programs in France with many public and private institutions. As of today, the Institute has run more than 140 projects, with a total of 40 M€ investment from Roche and Genentech, with a current output of more than 20 publications, 40 abstracts and 10 patents.

Institute of Oncology, Riga Stradins University – Riga, Latvia. The main part of the Institute is located in the campus of Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, Riga, Latvia. This provides for availability of consecutive series of tissues from cancer patients treated at the Hospital. The main interests and expertise of RSUIO lies is population screening for hereditary cancer, molecular screening, identification of new founder and somatic mutations and markers associated with cancer, generating personalized DNA/RNA markers to monitor efficacy of therapy and cancer development.

Universitatea Transilvania din Braşov (UTBV) is a Romanian public academic institution with over 800 full-time scientists and professors and around 20,000 students (including over 500 students in PhD programs). The Department of Automation and Information Technology is affiliated to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. It has participated in / coordinated numerous European and National research projects with focus on biomedical engineering (e.g. MDPaedigree, HEART, etc.), and has strong know-how in high performance computing (GPU/cloud/cluster) and modelling and simulation (both data-driven modelling, i.e. machine learning, and mathematical modelling). The modelling of the human physiology is one of the major research directions in the department: the research activities have focused on the development of models and tools for the understanding, non-invasive diagnosis and treatment of pathologies in humans. Various tools with TRL level 6 or 7 have been developed in collaboration with medical imaging industrial partners.

Health Innovation Agenda is the main educational and communication project developed by our organisation. The approach is: personalised communication and education for personalised medicine and innovation.

Specialized in all types of omics analysis including Exome analysis in ALS patients, Cardiomyopathy patients and also in cancer patients (Breast Cancer, Glioblastoma,etc.) Has an on-going EU Project (MeTable) on metagenome analysis. Has expertise in developing algorithms for identification of driver mechanisms and targeted therapy in Cancer. Has expertise in text mining for drug resistance mutations and other related applications. Has applied for another EU project on Cancer Stem Cells. Has expertise in cloud computing and open interfaces.

The University is a theme university focusing only on Health. So it only has health related departments ranging from medicine to dentistry to medical engineering. University is also affiliated with owner of largest private hospital chains (Acibadem Group) in Turkey and others in Balkans, Singapour and Malaysia. Most of the faculty are also practising physicians at these hospitals. Some are specialized in Cancer. Has access to diverse range of cancer patients. (www.giottobiotech.com) is a research-intensive small‐medium enterprise (SME) founded in 2011 as a spin-off of the University of Florence, aiming at contributing to the biotech sciences by providing enabling products and services, with a special focus on technologies that are complementary to the field of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The company is active in several areas including protein production, stable isotope labeling, NMR services, analysis of metabolomic profiles as obtained by NMR, biological database development and management, database analysis, grid computing for structural biology.

UNICANCER is a health cooperation group (GCS) bringing together the 20 French Comprehensive Cancer Centers (FCCC), which are private, non-profit establishments and their Federation around a shared medical scientific project. It pools their strategic activities: research, purchasing, human resources, hospital strategy, quality control and information systems.

UNICANCER is also an academic promoter of research with a goal of developing clinical and translational research that is both pertinent and rigorous in the aim of improving cancer treatments and patient management. In France, UNICANCER and the 20 FCCC are at the forefront of clinical research in cancer, in particular regarding personalized medicine. Indeed,  NICANCER is the promotor of several clinical trials in personalised medicine for cancer such as SAFIR or AcSé, and UNICANCER was the organisor in 2015 of the first MAP conference (molecular Analysis for personalised therapy) together with Cancer Research UK and ESMO (http://www.map-onco.net). The second conference being planned for 2016.

This network is a federation of Health Big Data Warehouses dedicated to clinical research regrouping CHU Rennes, CHU Brest , CHU Nantes, CHU poitiers, CHU Angers. The network develop tools and services dedicated to clinical data reuse especially for clinical research and epidemiology.

It is the first Clinical Data Research Network in terms of populations and geographical area and represent a great opportunity to test clinical big data processing for the DMC topics. The network is lead by Pr Marc CUGGIA (CHU de Rennes) and Pr Eric Stindel (CHU de Brest).

The largest European oncology research center and two state-of-the-art hospitals. Institut Curie (IC) is a world-class Comprehensive Cancer Center with two cancer hospitals and a multidisciplinary cancer research centre combining research in biology, genetics, soft matter physics, organic and medicinal chemistry. Institut Curie hosts manyfacilities, including high-throughput sequencing (NGS), bioinformatics, high-performance computational cluster, as well as access to large clinical databases and sample collections. Institut Curie ‘s hospital group constitutes a major cancer center, treating more than 13000 cancer patients per year. Institut Curie is one of the most active French centers for early clinical trials in oncology and is a pioneer in precision medicine. IC incorporates a well renowned basic science campus for cancer research as well as a large translational science (and omics) platform. It is a referral center with a staff of > 3000 (>200 medical) persons involved in patient care, research and education as well as also having a role in cancer prevention. Its annual load is of > 12.000 new patients. IC runs a colposcopy clinic. IC has a complete electronic record since 2000 (430,000 records – more than 10 million documents) and structured databases, in particular for breast cancer patients (60,000 cases), with more than 10 years followup.

IC is certified by Inca (Institut national du cancer) to conduct early clinical trials. It has a technical platform controlling all aspects of clinical research, a clinical database, and a department of statistics and of epidemiology. Backed by an international renowned research center, IC deploys a project of automatic structuring and data integration including omics, clinical and imaging data. IC has a bioinformatics platform (Dr. Emmanuel Barrillot) ensuring the development and setup of automatic pipelines for high-throughput data analysis, and a molecular platform (labelled in 2006 by INCa) and coordinated by Dr Olivier Delattre and Dr Ivan Bièche tested more than 3,000 patients in 2013 for molecular predictive tests. This platform generates at a routine bases molecular data that needs to be bridged to the patient’s clinical record. Multidisciplinary research projects including the SHIVA trial (Le Tourneau et al. 2015), as well as the routine molecular biology board and molecular diagnosis and prognosis data from pediatric cancers continuously enrich IC databases.
